Three Norman ships arrived at the southern coast of England. When the magistrate received them and asked them to meet the king, he was slain.
Four years later happened the famous attack on Linsifarne monastery on a small island norhteast of England.

This was the beginning of numerous raids of the Vikings to England, Scotland and Ireland. Bigger and bigger fleets arrived to plunder and later settle down. The Vikings did build picket posts on the Shetland and Orkney islands and on the Isle of Man. These were perfect strongholds for following raids. On the Isle of Man there were for about 100 years no laws, as there was no jarl or warlord to protect them. This is the reason, why the Isle of Man was really settled only from the mid of the 10th century on.

We portray the period between 900 and 950, the “Jelling Style” era, and “settle” on the Isle of Man. There were mainly Vikings from Norway, but also influences from Irish Celts and Danes. There were treaties between Normans and Celts and Anglo-Saxons, so there is a great variety in our living history impression.

We want to avoid a plain burial site based impression. We are living according to the ideas of experimental archaeology. Beneath making of clothing, shoes, jewelry, glass beads and accoutrements, we study Viking military tactics, build bows and arrows and do other every day activities to achieve an historic accurate impression. We are also in the process of rebuilding a Viking ship right now – a coast ship found at Roskilde in Danmark. With all our activities there is no lack of a nice camp of like-minded people, who may sit around with a cup of mead and praise their hauls!
